CVAC is a conduit for creativity created by dedicated individuals to provide access to artists on all levels: the established professional, the beginner, as well as the student working towards a future in the arts. CVAC is the idea of introductions – new concepts, new art, artists, community, history – all combining and transforming in an atmosphere of inquiry and accomplishment. CVAC is located in Downtown Indio where the new use for an old building has initiated the process of transformation- of physical space and creative personalities. We invite you to join us in the process.
The CVAC follows the credo, “To Enhance the Creative Vitality of the Coachella Valley.” CVAC is one solution that meets the needs of the Coachella Valley’s creative community- studios, meeting space, exhibit space. The CVAC is headquartered in a 17,000 square foot former newspaper printing facility that has been a part of Indio’s downtown for decades.
CVAC strives to preserve the ideas and work of contemporary artists and thinkers. CVAC shares the work and ideas of our creative ancestors.
The CVAC building has renovated what was once the Indio Daily Post and CV Printing Company into, painting, sculpture, metal kiln glass and hot glass studios. Exhibition spaces, Art classrooms, meeting and rehearsal spaces exist for the Coachella Valley and Riverside County region. These efforts, like all community oriented projects, need community support.
CVAC presents a space brewing with energy. Artists can be working in their individual or group spaces day and night. Exhibitions – historical, contemporary, experimental fill the exhibit spaces. Artists from valley cities and beyond have been given the opportunity to install their personal exhibits. Performing groups have rehearsal space that is affordable. Community groups have meeting space to meet their needs. CVAC periodically invites valley residents to talks ranging from New York City’s Percent for Art Program, to the adventure of becoming and being a working artist.
The CVAC has been designed to be – needs to be – a place where things happen; where failure and success are equally valid. CVAC is where creativity grows, in a building, on a computer screen or desert floor.
