Glass artist and sculptor Patrick Blythe hosted a group of Palm Springs Art Museum Docents at his studio December 1st, 2014. The group began with a tour of the center and and an overview of Patricks work and process before they created their own glass works. The group was treated to a hot glass demonstration by Ed deRoo and Richard Lane from the CVAC Hot Glass studio. The docents brought with them a passion for the arts and the creative process that was reflected in their glass vignette individual and team projects.

Experimenting with Metal in Art
Using copper as a surface for painting has a deep history in the arts. Artist such as El Greco, Brueghel and Rembrandt painted masterpieces in oil paint on copper sheet. In this class we will be experimenting with metal in various ways. Using small sheets of copper, brass and aluminum we will see how different metals respond to and enhance various media including oil paint and collage. We will also manipulate the surfaces using patinas, image transfer, writing and etching. The techniques explored in the class will have implications for large and small artworks including jewelry.
