The Coachella Valley Art Center (CVAC), 45140 Towne Street, Indio hosted a public opening of “149- Contemporary Thoughts on the Lynching of Mexicans in California 1848-1895” on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 6-9 PM.
149 is a part of Desert X Parallel Programs.
149 features artworks by two generations of artists, Marnie L. Navarro (MLN17) and Wm. Marquez, (Wm. Schinsky). Navarro, in her late 30s, is known for her socially conscious approach to making Art Marquez, age 72, creates theme specific installations. For “149”, both artists reflect personal thoughts concerning their Mexican heritage.
Navarro, born in Northern California was brought to the Coachella Valley at age 3 by her family. Marquez, relocated to the Coachella Valley in 2003 after working in the Southeast for 25 years. He was born in Santa Monica, CA, the town established by his maternal ancestors.

For the month of August, LIFEWORK mounted a pop up exhibition at the Coachella Valley Art Center. The exhibition titled The Light which Reveals the Alarming Ghosts featured artwork by Griselda Calderon Lopez, Zach Fleming-Boyles, MLN17, and Kevin Townsend. An artist's reception took place at CVAC on Aug 3 from 6 - 10:00 pm with refreshments sponsored by Dead or Alive Bar, a craft beer and wine bar located in Palm Springs, CA.

This exhibition is a collection of contemporary works by artists from the Los Angeles area. Curated by CVAC artist Mike McLain, LAnCV2 includes a diverse selection of mediums. CVAC is pleased to host these artists in the spirit of cultivating contemporary art and establishing creative dialog with a wider community.

Art Show and Creative Writing Contest - Celebrating May is Mental Health Month.
For the past three years, CVAC has hosted an art exhibition showcasing a selection of works by clients, staff and family of the Riverside County Mental Health Department.
The exhibition is a celebration of wellness and recovery with the supreme goal of relieving the stigma's of mental health and creating a safe place for all to enjoy each-others art and company. The show has no bounds when it comes to media and covers a diverse range of works, including creative writing and sculpture. Prizes are given to award winners in their respective categories the exhibition will kick off Tuesday May 13 and run through Sunday May 25th.
